As you prepare to leave the US to go to Haiti, here are some things to keep in mind when you are packing.  For some of you this might be your first time going to Haiti so please read and re-read these suggestions.

Step 1

Pack loose fitting, light colored clothing to stay cool in the Haiti heat. Natural fabrics, such as cotton, linen and silk, breathe better than synthetic fabrics, such as nylon. Pack outfit pieces that are interchangeable to limit the amount of clothing you need.

Step 2

Pack a pair of runners or hiking shoes to wear during city and countryside travel. The streets and sewers fill quickly during rainstorms, so these closed toe shoes are recommended for comfort as well as hygiene. Bring flip-flops or sandals to wear in the shower.  The beach of Luly is rocky so it is recommended that you wear swimshoes.

Step 3

Bring a bathing suit for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving and other water activities in Haiti.  As mentioned there is an optional activity scheduled for Monday, July 17th where you will have the opportunity to participate in these water activities.

Step 4

Pack sun protection supplies. Start with a strong sunscreen lotion with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 40. Add a pair of UV-protection sunglasses to your luggage and a hat with a wide brim to shield your face from the sun. A personal size, battery operated fan also will help to cool you during ventures out in the hot sun.

Step 5

Bring a belt pack or knapsack to carry essentials during outings.

Step 6

Pack a mosquito repellent cream or spray and use it.

Step 7

Pack a battery-operated flashlight and spare batteries. The electricity in Haiti is not always reliable.

Step 8

Pack your passport.

Step 9

Pack necessary Over The Counter Medicine that you think you might need, i.e. Tylenol, Pepto-Bismol, Eye Drops, Insect Bite Creme.  In the outskirts of where we are, there isn't a local CVS available to buy common items.  To be safe you should pack your own little first-aid kit.

Step 10
Most importantly pack your camera to take pics with all your newly discovered family members 😊
